Congratulations-P7 Sentinus Gold Award

3rd Jun 2015
Congratulations-P7 Sentinus Gold Award

On Tuesday 2nd June the P7 class was visited by Mr Dominic McCartan from Sentinus, an organisation which works with schools and colleges throughout Northern Ireland to deliver programmes which promote engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and support the development of young people by enhancing their essential life skills. He arrived to assess the STEM Business project the P7's had set up with parent and local mushroom grower, Mr Frank Donnelly. Mr McCartan was astounded by the children's business knowledge and enterprise and awarded the class the Gold Certificate, their highest accolade for business links ventures. As you are aware the children have been eagerly selling their produce in school over the past few weeks, which has been the end result of a very well planned business venture. I wish to take this opportunity to thank all involved in the project for their help and support in particular Frank Donnelly for his time and expertise and the children for their enthusiastic endeavours.

The class will now attend an exhibition in the University of Ulster Jordanstown on Tuesday 23rd June and show their excellent work along with other Sentinus award winners across Northern Ireland.

Some of their profits the children have donated to school funds and the rest will be used to subsidise a class trip to Belfast Grand Opera House on Friday 5th June.
